Call 1 (888) 973-5924Understanding Fiber Cement
Fiber cement siding is manufactured from a blend of cement, sand and cellulose fibers that is formed into boards and panels. The result is a material with a solid feel and a clean, crisp appearance that can imitate wood lap, shingle or smooth panel looks. It is heavier than vinyl and behaves differently on the wall, which is why installation technique matters as much as the product itself.
Durability
Fiber cement does not rot like wood, and pests do not feed on it. Its dense body resists dents better than many lightweight claddings, which many homeowners appreciate in an exposed exterior.
Fire Behavior
Because it is a cement based product, it does not burn the way wood siding does. This is a quality many Westwood, KS homeowners value when comparing cladding materials.
Finish Options
Boards are available factory finished or primed for painting on site. Either way, the finish and the sealed joints are what keep the surface looking its best over time.
What Makes This Installation Different
Handling a heavy, brittle board is a different craft from hanging light panels. These are the areas where experience shows.
Cutting With Care
Fiber cement is cut with tools designed for the material, and cutting creates fine dust. We use appropriate dust control methods and protective equipment so the work is carried out responsibly.
Handling the Weight
The boards are heavy and must be carried and held on edge to avoid snapping. Crews work in pairs and plan the layout carefully so every piece is handled safely.
Fastening and Spacing
Boards are nailed or screwed at the correct points, with consistent gaps at joints. Correct fastening keeps the wall flat and prevents cracked edges.
Sealing the Details
Joints, butt ends and trim junctions are flashed and caulked as needed. Cut edges are sealed according to the product requirements to keep moisture out of the board.
